Their band saw is popular with airplane kit builders. The offerings from Chicago Electric power tools include both corded and cordless drills, saws of all types, sanders and grinders. They offer both outdoor yard tools and household power tools. They even offer electric winches of various capabilities and an electric hoist. The variety that Chicago Electric power tools offer extends to some automotive related tools as well. A few bench based tools are offered also, like a compound miter saw.

Bands saws are used to cut thinner material into odd shapes with less wastage from the width of the blade. The thin flexible blade allows material to be cut with a radius curve smaller than you can get from a circular saw. With a band saw, you rotate the material as you cut it to achieve the curve you desire. It is possible to make a tool called a jig that will help you to achieve a very smooth curve reducing the amount of sanding needed to finish the piece.

The band on the band saw being thin and flexible has a tendency to break while you are cutting material. When this happens, shut the machine off and replace the blade. Usually the blade will break at the point it was welded together and will not shatter into pieces. When you purchase replacement blades, spend the money necessary to get the best you can find. The welds will be stronger and the blade will last you much longer than cheaper blades will. Be careful when pushing material into the blade. Do not wear any gloves or loose fitting long sleeves when operating a band saw. The blade has a tendency to catch such items and draw the flesh under it into the blade cutting quickly and deeply. Whenever operating any equipment that Chicago power tools offers, wear protective eyewear to protect your eyes from flying materials.

Chicago Electric power tools offers quality power tools at bargain basement prices. They have the tools you desire at the prices you want to pay. When you are on a limited budget to fill your workshop with tools to accomplish those projects you absolutely have to get done, Chicago Electric power tools are definitely the best option available. You can find these tools online or at selected stores in your area.

Mini bank grinder/polisher with adjustable shaft (0-10000 RPM no load)

This is a mini bench grinder and polisher that I bought off of ebay with 3" diameter grinding and polishing wheels. It can spin up to 10000 RPM when there is nothing being ground or polished (no load.) It has a flexible shaft for hard to get at spots. It cost me .50 CDN (.45 USD) including shipping, around USD without shipping. Just search on ebay for "mini bench grinder" and you'll find it or one just like it. The company that makes it is Neiko Tools USA. I've since taken it apart (see below) so I can't weigh it exactly but I'd guess it weighs roughly 700-1200 grams. I bought it to take apart and use the high RPM motor with dual shaft ends for something I'm building called a Hyde generator and details will can be found at rimstar.org - rimstar.org -

Bosch 1274DVS 6.6 Amp 3-Inch by 21-Inch Variable Speed In-Line Belt Sander with Cloth Dust Bag

Well-executed design combined with solid, reliable performance make this Bosch belt sander a tool with noticeable performance advantages. The Bosch features a magnesium-and-plastic housing that's lightweight yet durable. The tool is nicely balanced, comfortable, and easy to operate--important features in a tool that's often used for long periods of time for removing large amounts of stock. The Bosch comes with a cast-aluminum platen--so there's none of the warping that affects stamped-steel platens--and it sands perfectly flat right out of the box. Like many of the sanders in this class, the motor on the 1274 is aligned with the belt edge to allow flush sanding into corners. The tool's only drawback is that visibility is limited when sanding into tight corners, but that's a small minus when weighed against all the pluses. The belt-changing system works well--we didn't suffer any spring pinches--and the tracking adjustment tracks the new belt quickly and keeps it in place. There's a variable-speed dial built right into the trigger switch, which makes adjusting the belt speed fast and convenient. Wood magazine tested 10 3-by-21-inch sanders and liked the 1274DVS best. We agree that it's a great tool. --Mark McDonald

Grinding Tools - The Different Types and Their Specific Applications

!±8± Grinding Tools - The Different Types and Their Specific Applications

Grinding tools, as the name implies, are machines used for grinding. Grinding is possible because of the presence of the so-called abrasive wheel. This is the main part of the grinding tool used for cutting. The role of the abrasive wheel is to make a cut on a particular surface of the material or work piece through the process known as shear deformation.

Aside from the grinding or abrasive wheel, the machine also has its own bed. The bed specifically functions for guiding and holding the material or work piece. Another part is called the grinding head that is important in controlling the force of the grinding tool to that of the work piece. At times, the grinding head may be fixed while it travels through the work piece or it may move while the work piece is left on a fixed position. Looking to specific types of grinding tools will allow better understanding of its applications.

Belt grinders

Belt grinders are specifically important in belt grinding processes. They function very well in metals with the presence of coated abrasives. The belt grinding process is regarded as a very versatile one because it is a very relevant method in almost all applications. Coated abrasives are also being used during the process.

Some people are somehow confused between the uses of belt sanders with that of belt grinders. To separate the two, remember that sanders are made for wood while grinders are specifically functional for metals. The three basic applications of belt grinders are broken down as follows: finishing for surface roughness, polishing and cosmetic finishes; stock removal such as tool mark removal and cleaning of corrosion; and deburring like edge breaking.

Bench grinders

These are types of grinding tools that perform with the use of two wheels instead of one. They are essential in any type of finishing or roughing processes. They are termed as such because of the usage of a workbench during the bench grinding process. They are vital in forming a shape out of tool bits and other tools needing repair. At times, they are also known as pedestal grinders.

Other types of grinders

Aside from the first two types of grinders, there are also cylindrical, surface, and jig grinders. The cylindrical grinder is made of various abrasive or grinding wheels and is used to form a cylinder out of a work piece. The surface grinder on the other hand, is helpful in order to produce a smooth and flat finish out of a metallic or non-metallic surface. The last type of grinding tools, the jig grinders, is made for dies, fixtures and jigs.
